Magical Things To Do During Christmas In NYC

Christmas can make pretty much any place feel magical, wouldn’t you say? One of the most magical places to spend Christmas in is, of course, New York City. Walking along the streets bundled up in your coat, all you see are glittering lights and decorations for the holidays. You can smell the pine trees in the air. When the weather cools down, the atmosphere becomes electric, the streets begin to light up and you can sense the excitement in the air: Christmas is coming. If you happen to be in the city during the most wonderful time of the year, there are so many things you can do. We decided to compile the most magical things you can do in the Big Apple during the holiday season and enjoy the city.

Explore Sixth Avenue

Have you ever seen giant Christmas decorations? Well, even if you did, you might want to take a stroll down Sixth Avenue. You’ll get to see huge red ornaments, Christmas lights, nutcrackers, and more. You’ll feel like you’re in another world.

Rockefeller Center

The best way to get into the Christmas spirit is by going to see the famous Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. It’s lit with no less than 50,000 LED lights in an array of colors. The finishing touch of the tree is the sparkling Swarovski star at the top. Normally, it gets lit at the end of November and stays up until around January 7th.

Ice Skate

Ice skating is the perfect activity to do in the winter, especially around Christmas time. There are multiple rinks in the city you could choose from. There is one in Rockefeller Center, one in Central Park, and one in Bryant Park. The only thing is, you should keep the price differences in mind as well as the lines for each rink. If you want to go to Rockefeller Center, for instance, you should try to get there earlier in the day to avoid the bigger crowds.

Walk Down Fifth Avenue

Another nice stroll you can take in the city is down Fifth Avenue. You’ll be able to admire the gorgeous festive window displays. The fancier shops tend to go all out and spare no expense when they decorate their windows for Christmas.

Go To A Museum

This might not be a Christmas-focused activity, but going to visit a museum while in New York City is always a great experience. There are so many different options to choose from, like the Met, and the MOMA. All the same, being indoors for the day is a great way to take a break from the cold weather outside.

Check Out Macy’s

The Macy’s in Herald’s Square transform the 8th floor in their store each year for Christmas and it truly is a sight to see. They turn the space into Santaland, a magical land that will make you feel like you were transported to the North Pole.

Christmas Markets

Another fun activity to do in the city is to explore the Christmas markets. There are more than enough to choose from. From Columbus Circle to Union Square and Bryant Park, you’ll be able to find the most unique and festive items as well as delicious foods to try out.

Walk In Dyker Heights

If you want to see the most over-the-top Christmas lights, just head for Dyker Heights in Brooklyn. The neighborhood residents go all out for the holiday, and the decorations are absolutely magnificent to look at!
