Not a lot of people have many original songs when they are launching a music career. To build a following, they would perform covers to pander to their fans. This was what Kenny Chesney did early in his career. In those days, he performed in bars and took requests from people who had specific songs in mind. While his fans appreciated it, this came with its own set of problems. Certain songs got requested so much that he got sick with them. He left a note on the tip jar as a warning of sorts.
