The Miracles band would not have seen any success if it had not been for frontman and founder Smokey Robinson. He was also the songwriter and chief producer of the musical act. In 1972, he retired and launched a solo career. In 1990, he finally left Motown Records and wrote a lot of music for other musicians. Did you know that he got his nickname from his uncle? The older gave him “Smokey Joe” as his “cowboy name.” The name stuck for the rest of his life!
